Freshman Highlight: Kayla Frank (45)

Hometown: Moorsetown, NJ

Midfielder Kayla Frank was featured in the Nov. 2019 issue of USLacrosse magazine as a starting freshman. A standout at Moorestown High School, Frank earned two state titles, two USLacrosse All-American honors, first-team All-State, All-South Jersey, and All-County, as well as South Jersey Midfielder of the Year.

Coming from a top high school program, Frank was ready for the competitiveness of a D1 sport. For a lot of athletes, the transition from high school to college athletics can be jarring and in some cases, affect their game. Not for Frank though, who’s love for the game has made the transition seamless,“being able to handle the top teams in the country [in high school]…really helped being here.”

During her first season at Virginia Tech, Frank was sixth in D1 in scoring and led all freshman in the nation with 45 total points scored. Frank also scored hat tricks in three of her first four games, while setting the program record for assists in a single game with eight against Radford.

“I love to be in high-pressure situations, it’s really fun to compete and play the game I love,” Frank said in response to how her time with Virginia Tech has been in her first season.
